Cascade Pacific works on projects to reduce nitrate levels and improve water quality throughout this Groundwater Management Area.
What happened?
The Willamette River and the area's groundwater have been contaminated by nitrates from agricultural fertilizers, as well as residential and commercial/industrial runoff and wastewater.
Cascade Pacific RC&D was actively involved in the Steering Committee that developed an Action Plan to address nitrate reduction. We're also helping to implement the agricultural portion of the Plan through our Willamette Floodplain Restoration Program.
The Southern Willamette Groundwater Management Area overlays the Willamette River Floodplain between Albany and Coburg from 99E and 99W to the Willamette River.
