CPRCD Receives Two RBEGs
CPRCD was awarded two Rural Business Enterprise Grants (RBEGs) for projects to promote and strengthen rural businesses.
A grant for $18,000 will help expand the Oregon Country Trails program, which markets unique rural businesses through self-guided tours and online shopping. The grant will enable creation of 11 new trails throughout the state, each promoting 15 rural businesses.
The Oregon Farm Stay Website project received a $17,000 grant to develop a site that provides direct marketing for on-farm accommodations. The site will also educate Oregon farmers on how to offer accommodations as a value-added service. |

NWMP was created in 2004 as a fresh, collaborative approach to habitat protection and restoration. For many years, invasive weeds were controlled in a piecemeal fashion as staff and resources permitted. These isolated projects were found to have little long-term impact in protecting ag/timber lands and wildlife habitat. Further, managing weeds without restoring the sites with desirable species made it extremely easy for a new wave of weeds to invade.
NWMP was modeled after successful Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) programs used in Montana, Idaho and California. These programs pooled the limited resources of several entities, which worked together at local and regional levels to control invasive weeds, restore wildlife habitat, and increase crop and timber production.
According to the new report, as of December 2009 there were over 100 signed Memorandums of Agreement between partnering organizations and NWMP.

5-Year Strategic Plan Completed
CPRCD has completed a long-range plan that provides the organization's strategic direction for July 2010 through June 2015.
The plan was developed after gathering public input from meetings in each of CPRCD's six counties -- Benton, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Marion and Polk. It was guided by the CRPCD Board and developed in cooperation with local citizens, communities, government entities, and public and private organizations.
Contingent on final approval by the CPRCD Board, the strategic plan will be available online the week of July 19 at www.cascadepacific.org.

Other events include tours of the Council’s piling removal project, a native plant tour, a workshop by Polk Soil & Water Conservation District, and a review of local history. Music will be provided by Home Grown, an old-timey band.
