Willamette Valley Birding Trail

The Willamette Valley Birding Trail provides a self-guided tour of the Valley's birding sites using existing roads, pull-offs, parking areas and walking trails. The Trail Guide is available online at http://www.oregonbirdingtrails.org/willamettevalley.htm.

The Trail ...

  • Links the Oregon Cascades and Oregon Coast Birding Trails, making them part of the official Oregon Birding Trails network.
  • Provides opportunties to see birds in Willamette Valley habitats.
  • Shows the results of wildlife habitat conservation and stewardship.
  • Provides a year-round, low impact recreational opportunity in the Valley.
  • Boosts the economic vitality of communities and businesses along the trail.

Who’s involved?

Cascade Pacific RC&D's partners include the Willamette Valley's Audubon chapters, Oregon Field Ornithologists, Travel Oregon, Convention & Visitors Association of Lane County, Albany Visitors Association, City of Eugene, Lane Council of Governments, National Park Service, Oregon Parks & Recreation Department, Portland Metro, US Army Corps of Engineers, USDA Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish & Wildlife Service, Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, Willamette Valley Visitors Association, and others.

As the project’s fiscal sponsor, Cascade Pacific RC&D has received $15,000 in grants from Travel Oregon for the web-based trail guide, logo, outreach brochure, and organizational support, and $12,500 from National Forest Foundation for restoration of key birding sites. We also secured a technical assistance grant from the National Park Service for trail planning and development.

Where?

The Trail includes the area bounded by the Columbia River to the north, the Cascades foothills to the east, Cottage Grove to the south, and the summit of the Coast Range to the west.
